Brendan Fitzgerald\u00a0on Sunday October 29<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0Once again the symbol for the day was the Irish Mass Rocks, where\u00a0outlawedMasses were said\u00a0in secret\u00a0by outlawed priestsduring\u00a0the\u00a0English Penal Laws.\u00a0This year the Irish Language Mass\u00a0included\u00a0a special remembrance\u00a0for\u00a0bereaved\u00a0families \u201c<em>who hunger and thirst for justice<\/em>\u201d,\u00a0following a call by Archbishop\u00a0Eamon\u00a0Martin, Primate of\u00a0all Ireland, for prayers for\u00a0those\u00a0who lost loved ones during the Troubles, and fear\u00a0their hopes of justice taken away by a new British amnesty law.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PIPERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceremony began with pipers\u00a0Rockland County AOH President\u00a0Dermot Moore,\u00a0and Bronx\u00a0Division 5 President Pat O\u2019Hara\u00a0leading Fr. Fitzgerald and Hibernians into the Church. New York\u00a0AOH leaders included State\u00a0Vice-President\u00a0Tom\u00a0Beirne,\u00a0District Directors Clive Cronin and Kevin Howell, and County Presidents Robert\u00a0Eggen\u00a0and Jamie Hamilton.\u00a0Ladies\u00a0AOH\u00a0members were led\u00a0by LAOH\u00a0NY\u00a0State Freedom for all Ireland Chair, Joan Moore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BOOKLETS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Booklets containing Irish-English translations of the prayers, were handed out to those coming into St. Barnabas, or downloaded&nbsp;by&nbsp;viewers on&nbsp;facebook. These booklets allowed everyone to follow the prayers in English as they listened to the Irish words.<strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Readings in Irish were done by Irish Deputy Consul General&nbsp;Gareth&nbsp;Hargadon&nbsp;<a><\/a>and&nbsp;MaireadGreenan,&nbsp;of the Emerald Isle ImmigrationCenter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A special music program&nbsp;in Irish was provided&nbsp;by the&nbsp;Dawn Doherty Academy of Irish music and singing,&nbsp;with performers including&nbsp;Dawn Doherty,&nbsp;Jimmy Grady, Lauren&nbsp;Tuffy&nbsp;,Ellie Reilly,&nbsp;Maureen&nbsp;Rutledge,&nbsp;EmerMoylan,&nbsp;Bridget Ferry,&nbsp;Lily Kenny,&nbsp;TrionaMcEntee, Maggie&nbsp;Feehan&nbsp;and Katie&nbsp;Talty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local Irish community groups supporting the Gaelic Mass included the, Aisling Irish Center, Emerald Isle Immigration Center, Brooklyn Irish Club and of course St. Barnabas Parish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly 1,000 viewers have\u00a0watched\u00a0the Gaelic Mass either on St. Barnabas Facebook or AOH\u00a0Youtube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRIBUTE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his sermon Fr. Fitzgerald&nbsp;paid a special tribute to&nbsp;Jim Lombard&nbsp;a leader&nbsp;in the Irish American community, who had just passed away and was being waked at St. Margaret\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Following the Gaelic Mass, Martin Galvin President of Bronx County AOH said:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cGaelic Mass Day has gone from a local Bronx AOH event to become a<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>n important<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;national event with AOH members across the country<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;and viewers in Ireland joining on Facebook or&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Youtube<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>We are grateful to t<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>he parish, AOH and LAOH nationally, Irish government, local Irish community groups,<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;and<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;Irish language clubs<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;who have given Gaelic Mass Day&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>the importance it now holds.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;The AOH exists to foster Irish traditions, ideals, culture and history.
